more "how to" and less "know how"

I swung by a Barnes & Nobel and the Photography section seems to no longer contain books OF photography... just "How To" books.  Such a shame, a hundred versions of trying to teach you and nobody showing you.

Alas... I think I just like books with lots of pictures is all.  :)

Billable Hours

I shot 18 new stunning pieces of jewelry for Continuum this past week.

I also got a job at ProDPI.  They're a printing company here in Denver that prints just about anything you can think of!  There's really cool stuff and really cool machines all over the place where I work.  There was even chilli one day!

But the real reason I wanted to blog was to say, BLAMO!  LOOK AT THIS:

MCA SAY HEY!

My awesome photographer friend Beth and I have been shooting Black Sheep Friday events (Like it!) at the MCA Denver.  They are fun themed parties to get your Friday nights started.

They are in the museum's cafe upstairs from 7-9.  Awesome people, fun times, amazing view, and themed booze even!

How do you theme booze?  The MCA knows how!

Equality

See, men are objectified just like women.  Rion Sabean proves it with his photo series "Men-ups" where men are photographed in classic pin-up poses.

Continuum

I've had the chance to shoot lots of really beautiful jewelry pieces for Continuum Jewelry since graduation and their website just went live recently so I am excited to put some of the photos up on the interwebs!  Look!

Bus Portraits Promo video

The final series looks pretty different because so many of these shots didn't make the cut, but I love them so!  I'm glad they can still live somewhere and be seen.

Super-Connected

I just saw the new Composer Pro that lensbaby released the other day and I'm here to say that it is one fine piece of photo equipment!  When I got home I immediately wanted to put my lensbaby on my camera so I did.

I took a photo of my favorite photo I've ever made.  It was up at an AiCO gallery show for a month or so and if it had sold for $10,000 it would have made me very happy.  It didn't sell, but now I'm happy I get to look at it on my wall.  

Mas Awesome

So this might not be terribly current, but it's awesome nonetheless.  Shrek & friends do a spread for Vman.  I don't think any of us can honestly be surprised, Shrek is steppin' out on Fiona, Puss 'n Boots is gay (duh), and Donkey is a freak.

Art & Soul is a photo book full of really beautiful celebrity portraiture.  It's awesome because all the portraits are kinda the same but totally different at the same time.  Brian Smith is clearly a wonderful photographer, but is apparently also a great human being.  He is full of tips and encouragement for us newbie photographers!  Thanks Bri (It's cool that I call you Bri right?)

Speaking of newbie photographers, garyguild.com has gotten some updates!  A new commercial gallery.  I feel like it's not enough to just demonstrate technical photo skills within the confines of artistic concepts alone.  You have to also be able to show potential employers that you can combine technical skills with concepts based in commerce if you want a job.  So there's that.

ISO 1200 magazine also did a little spot on my ice portraits video.  This was back in August and I've forgotten to mention it, but it made me feel awesome!

And lastly, You Are Not A Photographer Blog.  A hilariously brutal blog bashing bad photography on the interweb.

Very entertaining, although I do have to disagree with part of their slogan, "... You can't buy talent."  You CAN, in fact, buy talent.  All you gotta do is write me a check!  ;)
