Ten quarters down two to go!

I had a really great opportunity to work with REpower Systems this quarter doing some annual report photography. These are some of the shots that couldn't be used for the annual report, but that I still really enjoy looking at!

Sabin world school photo club!

This quarter I volunteered for Sabin World School's photography club. Myself and several fellow classmates at AI have been working with kids from kindergarten to forth grade. We wrapped up a week or so ago with a photo shoot extravaganza in the gym. This is one of my favorite shots from that day.

Now we begin printing, framing, and hanging for the Emerging Exposures gallery show of the kid's work! The show will be some time in January; exact date TBA.

Emily Griffith's Opportunity School.

I lost these files in the great memory card mix up of 2009, but the book is still put together on blurb I've found! So, I'm a little nostalgic looking at my photo essay project from a couple of quarters ago.

Emily Griffith's Opportunity School in Downtown Denver is a very unique combination high school / vocational school for high school dropouts only. The facility is full of teachers who really care and students overcoming life's hardships at very young ages. I was really impressed with everybody I met while doing this project!

(You can click the image above to see all the photos on blurb if ya like.)

Haloween Time!

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

I met this creature on the bus ride home from downtown after taking some street portraits of all the crazies out for Haloween!

Just the creepy crawler above for now, street portraits to follow.

Bus blogin'!

I've got a game plan for portfolio this quarter! I'm really itching to move on to new photo projects, but you've got to finish what you start before moving on to something new right? So this quarter my goal is to FINISH the secret series AND the bus series. I want to be finished shooting, editing, artist stating... I even want to know what kind of paper and size of print I want for final output. I'm talkin' DONE.

So here's where I stand with the bus images so far. I wonder what the collection of photographs will look like at the end of the quarter. I'm excited for expansion!

windows and mirrors

These images won't be fixed to actual mirrors, but I did get them printed on metalic paper from Mpix.com (very nice and VERY FAST printing, by the way).

During critique I think it was the general consensus that the double exposures might be a bit much for mirrors, but that they could still mesh well with the rest of the work for the series. I haven't made up my mind between window matting or flush mounting yet though. hmmm.

I got to shoot the party photos for 303 Magazine's Gentlemen's issue launch party! I had a blast, and wanted to post a few.

Some New work and some OLD work!

I was going through very old photos tonight (instead of doing homework) and was able to put together a little time line of the secret series I'm working on.

The first series was shot in 2008! Say WHAT?! That's so long ago by now that I was literally still in Kansas (toto). I thought it was fun to actually see the progression over the years.

At the museum

Webbin' The Net has really kept me in the spirit of checking my blog updates more often and wanting to update mine as much as they do! These are old and have just been sitting in a folder for months.

Upside Downess

Thoughts on these images as diptychs anybody?

Sidewalks and suns shown in a different way than the way we normally see them in our everyday lives. I thought they made interesting pairs??

windows and meowzers

Focusing on focus--my teacher set my mind straight the other day in class. At first, I was only thinking of what to throw out of focus and forgetting what would, then, be kept IN focus. We had a little chat and my second shoot for focus is much awesomer. Next time the lazer tran printing begins! (I'm nervous.)

windows and mirrors

This quarter for photo design class I'm testing ole Mr. Szarkowski's theory of photographs as windows and mirrors. More specifically I am trying to see if a single photograph can be both a window and mirror at the same time. The first shoot for this project:
Micaela looking particularly angelic! The final images will be printed on Lazer Tran and then fixed to actual mirrors. The end results could be pretty weird... or pretty cool. Only time will tell

HAMBONE!

I have almost finished the next ice-secret photo and am really excited about it, but I can't blog it YET as it isn't done and ready. I just processed the film Monday, but things look good.

Since I don't like to make a blog post on my photo blog without a photo (and in the spirit of my blog's name):
My attempt at an ad for Pocket Wizards two quarters ago in school for advertising photogrpahy class. Like the lint roller before it this photo is a nice reminder that getting it wrong sometimes is part of the process. Reshoot! Ha!

I've been annexed!

The Vermount Photography Workplace just had an opened themed exhibit jurried by Keith Carter. Forty photographs were selected to be displayed in the Workplace's gallery, and thirty were selected for an online annex gallery. All seventy photographs will be available in the catalog. One of my images was selected to be in the annex gallery! Check out the rest of the images in the exhibit by clicking here.

garyguild.com

Big updates at garyguild.com. I think I got caught up in the spirit of portfolio review at the Art Institutes graduation (which was really fantastic by the way!) and I've updated almost all the galleries with images. The Orphans gallery is still empty, but also still on its way.

secrets

I started photographing secrets frozen in ice a long time ago, first quarter in fact! At any rate, now that I know what I'm doing with a camera and a light I've revisited the series and am having a pretty good time shooting them.

Photo booth installation at the Museum of Contemporary Art

Erin Algiere has organized a photo booth installation run by AIC students for the past two openings at the MCA Denver. The concept behind this photo booth was portraits of a side of yourself you rarely look at--the back of your head.

It was a lot of fun work for everybody involved, my fellow students: Jen Coudron, Katherine Winter, MacKinzie Willabanks, Amy Blomquist, Anne-Michele Mallory, Beth Eggleston, and Eric Hessler.

Thanks for the wonderful evening everybody!
